Honestly, how is The Whirldwind?

I'm interested in checking this album out but I don't want to get it if I'll listen to it once or twice, feel like I've heard it all before, then put it away forever disappointed. I hate Neal's solo work - it's bland and repetitive, the lyrics are as deep as my palm, and there's no real new ideas being presented (obligatory acoustic ballad, obligatory Latin sounding song, obligatory reflective piano/acoustic intro and outro, etc.) so if it's similar to that,...

Here's a question for all you recording musicians on this board: regardless of what you think of Transatlantic's new CD, all the reviews seem to agree that the production quality is excellent. My ears would agree - the audio quality seems strikingly clear, punchy, and not at all muddled, which is surprising given the large number of tracks layered together. I am the happy winner of the drawing Neal did for the studio whiteboard that Transatlantic used to keep track of different parts of the recording of this amazing epic!

Listening to this album today and it's freakin' great. As usual, Neal surrounds himself with quality musicians. The opener is possibly the best version of At the End of the Day I've ever heard. It really, really cooks. Nice version of the quirky "Leviathan" and loving the Question Mark Medley. Can't wait to spin disc 3!

There are some nice youtubes posted with Nick playing with Frost*. Jem Godfrey reports on his blog that Nick was a real star and he blends well with the band. Looks like Jem let him use the tom toms on the newer material. Good thing too. Must have been a good gig.

I started photo book projects on each band that I have photographed/worked with from Tears For Fears, Kevin Gilbert, Toto, LIVE, KISS, Spock's Beard, Slaughter, Motley Crue, etc. The books include backstage and candid shots as well as memorabilia pages. Roughly about 40 pages each with about 100+ photos. 9x11 hard cover. Just doing them as prototypes for me, mainly. I just started the Tears For Fears volume and this is Nick's full page layout ( minus the watermark, of course).
