I wouldn't argue with anything said above. Dark Matter and The Seventh House are the obvious jumping off points with probably Ever next. Subterranea, when you tackle it may be best viewed rather than heard, the DVD is excellent with a highly enlightening commentary track. The piece was conceived as an audio/visual performance and works best in that context. (In all honesty, it was the last CD I pulled out to listen to until I started playing the DVD more.)

Working backwards is your best bet, bearing in mind that the 80s output has two vastly different sounds: proggy - Tales From The Lush Attic/The Wake and poppy - Nomzamo/Are You Sitting Comfortably. While the latter two albums have some great music on them they are undeniably more commercial (and with a different vocalist) and tend to receive short shrift from die-hard proggers. The earlier two albums stand the test of time musically - many of the songs are still rotated in the live sets - but suffer a little from the lower production values which were a by-product of that phase of the band in terms of time and money available.

Having taken that production criticism on the chin for a number of years you can see why Mike takes such time to make sure that the new releases now are of the highest standard. And that's just reminded me of one of my favourite IQ moments - turning up to meet Mike in a Camden pub last year, I found him ensconced in a corner, iMac out and headphones on. 'What are you doing?' I enquired. 'Mixing the album' he replied, 'Look, I've got Protools on a USB stick!' Over my head technically but it sounded great.

Anyway, digressions aside, that's what you want to do.....work backwards.
